Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

Making your own ice cream feels like... being the bride. It's fabulous. Simultaneously you make yourself and everyone around you very happy. Wow, there's an over-the-top comparison. Still, it is pretty fabulous and really, riduculously, laughably easy, with the aid of a KitchenAid ice cream bowl. My obsession with ice cream began in May 2009 after receiving the ice cream attachment for my birthday. What followed was close to obsession. There will be many more posts about ice cream, but this one is just about making the yummy stuff.

This recipe comes from the exquisite book Chez Panisse Desserts by Lindsey Remolif Shere. The book contains no less than 68 ice cream recipes, among other mind blowing desserts. So far I have made humble versions of cinnamon, gingerbread, bourbon and vanilla - the gingerbread actually my own variation made by mixing in small pieces of gingerbread dough with clove ice cream to create a 'gingerbread cookies & cream' for a Thanksgiving dinner. You can be your own Ben AND Jerry with an ice cream maker!
