This event was especially enjoyable as it was raising money for an extremely worthy local charity, Apple Arts, which provide art activities and nutritional meals for children staying in a family shelter in Brooklyn. The couple holding the event were incredibly cool - Andries and Melissa - and the food was out of this world. Andries, a chef formerly of French Laundry and Gordon Ramsey restaurants, talks about 'wanting people to remember the ingredients, rather than just my cooking and really appreciating the produce'. They take great care in selecting all the ingredients from what they call "good food" places. That's not just local and organic, but also farmers with thoughtful philosophy, attitude and care for their produce and the community. I met some very interesting people from unexpected places who had come together to experience the cooking as well as the social aspect of the evening. Held in Melissa and Andries' eclectic live/work space in Brooklyn, the atmosphere was both relaxed and buzzing from the offset. All in all I came away feeling nourished both physically and spiritually. Truly a New York experience... And did I mention the food - truly some of the best NY has to offer. I highly recommend a Brooklyn Edible Social Club evening to anyone and everyone!

From British type artist/set designer/creative Anna Garforth comes this fabulous edible poster. Wouldn't this make a wonderful birthday cake? You would spell out a love message or all the words to Happy Birthday and everyone would get a biscuit. So fun! I appreciate the level of execution as well, dainty corners like this tend to catch in the oven so she's done very well to get them so consistent. Good work girl.

The edible poster spells out ''Bite off more than you can chew".
Anna says "Experimenting is about jumping in the deep end, exploring a side of things that may or may not work, it is a process of discovering and learning." Deep and edible, I love it.

They are available to buy on Etsy or via their website and according to the bio, the "Wild Bunch is a collection of actually quite friendly make-them-yourself paper animals"... what fun, cutting and sticking them together. I'd love to try to design my own with a simple pattern to colour in... but these are just so charming, I love them! Also in the animal collection are Easter chicks, Winter creatures and woodland critters. They also make the most fabulous 'tea towels sewing projects' - take a look at all this cuteness!!! The exhibition is in three parts covering 'Superstars', 'Traditional' and '9/11 Tributes'. It is so inspiring. The workmanship and quality is one aspect to marvel at, but it is also the incredible role that quilting has played in a historical sense, from the quilts of Ghee's Bend to the Colonial quilts of the English founders, woman have quilted and recorded their experiences throughout the years. It is humbling to see such efforts in such close detail. I highly recommend it. Here are a few pictures from the Folk Museum's site and a few of my own (including mummy!). Go to the American Folk Museum website to learn more, the exhibitions are on until Fall 2011.
