Brooklyn Edible Social Club
Friday, August 12, 2011 at 6:53PM Last night I attended a supper club called the Brooklyn Edible Social Club with some friends. This event was especially enjoyable as it was raising money for an extremely worthy local charity, Apple Arts, which provide art activities and nutritional meals for children staying in a family shelter in Brooklyn. The couple holding the event were incredibly cool - Andries and Melissa - and the food was out of this world. Andries, a chef formerly of French Laundry and Gordon Ramsey restaurants, talks about 'wanting people to remember the ingredients, rather than just my cooking and really appreciating the produce'. They take great care in selecting all the ingredients from what they call "good food" places. That's not just local and organic, but also farmers with thoughtful philosophy, attitude and care for their produce and the community. I met some very interesting people from unexpected places who had come together to experience the cooking as well as the social aspect of the evening. Held in Melissa and Andries' eclectic live/work space in Brooklyn, the atmosphere was both relaxed and buzzing from the offset. All in all I came away feeling nourished both physically and spiritually. Truly a New York experience... And did I mention the food - truly some of the best NY has to offer. I highly recommend a Brooklyn Edible Social Club evening to anyone and everyone!
